1.2 DESCRIPTION
1.2.1. ABSTRACT:
The distribution of alligatorweed ( Alternanthera philoxeroides) in North Carolina is provided. The data indicates the presence of the plant in the water body rather than the extent or density. The distribution of the plant in North Carolina was determined through visual inspection in the field during the late 1980's by Division of Water Resources staff. The latitude and longitude for each site was entered and plotted by the North Carolina Center for Geographic Information and Analysis. The plot was digitized in 1995 and is presented as the current data set.

1.2.2. PURPOSE:
This data was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).
